REG 7 FER 36,

His Excellency Vice-Aaniral Alexander Buller. C.B.

Commander in Chief of Her Majesty's China Squadron.

Sir:-

A few months ago verious reports appeared in some of the leading

London daily papers reflecting on the inadequacy of the accking feil-

ities at the port of Hongkong, and, probably in consequence of thes

Bisleacing reports, it was currently runoured shortly afterwards tha

Her Majesty's Government would require to build occks at this port

for the purposes of H. M's Fleet in these waters. The "Chine Mail",

at the request of my Board, at once inserted full particulars of the

dccks belonging to my Company and copies of this newspaper were for-

warded to the Secretary of State, the Lords Commissioners of the Aa-

miralty and to various Members of Farliament who were known to be in-

terested in Naval matters.

For your information, however, I now give you particulars of

the docks belonging to us:-
